"Life is too short: break some rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, and never regret anything that made you smile."

Flappers Upheld by the Minister:

"Our young women, now enjoying the rather slighting designation of flappers, and their male equivalents, are just about the same as the coquettes and dandies of former generations, and our horror at their actions corresponds of that of our own ancestors at us... we are repeating the reactions of our own parents and grandparents... besides short skirts, paint and powder, and short hair, what distinguishes the so-called flapper from anyone else in this age?..."

The Rebellious Flapper

The 1920's-

"Let's Misbehave

A Flapper's image was defined by her shocking truthfulness, risky living, and sexual behavior. At night, women were as alive as the city, they went to speakeasies, they drank and smoke, and they went to clubs to dance all night. They wanted to take risks an at that time, the model-T car was new, fast, and risky which was a perfect fit for a Flapper. They dated freely and went to "petting parties". The older generation was shocked at these young girls behavior, but that didn't stop these Flappers.

The new woman smoke, drank, danced, and kissed in public. One was full of life and passion. Because of the war, people clung to youth as if it were to leave them at any second, which made them be young and reckless  and take risks. They didn't care what others thought of them, they did stupid and crazy things anyway.

Flappers didn't do all these things just to rebel against the old generation, they also wanted to become equals to men and eliminate any social double standards. Women were now starting to become more independent. They started to vote and earn money by working. People were finally seeing that women weren't as weak and helpless as people thought they were. The new woman was now an independent thinker, who no longer followed those before her. These women set the difficult groundwork for the modern women that people see today.
